The project will be implemented in six counties (Machakos, Kajiado, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kiambu, Isiolo and Busia.The young people targeted by the “Vusha” project are at their transition point in their education from high school/vocational and/or tertiary education to the world of work. The project builds upon best practices drawn from ACWICT’s youth employability programs in recruitment, training, placement and tracking of poor and disadvantaged young people; integrating reproductive health issues into youth employability training and improving their employment prospects and income generating capacities developed and tested over the past seven years.
1,500 high potential young women aged 18-24 years from disadvantages backgrounds in (Machakos, Kajiado,Mombasa, Kisumu, Kiambu, Isiolo and Busia counties recruited and equipped with technical skills (IT),entrepreneurial and soft skills for employability coupled with on-the-job training experience;
300 (20%) of the young women trained assisted to continue education or training beyond the project offerings
300 (20%) of the young women participating in the program are assisted to start a social venture
900 (60%) of the young women participating in the program are assisted to secure jobs including in Online Work by the end of the one year program cycle;
3,000 more people from family and friends reached and impacted by the program;
Connection to internship and apprenticeship opportunities provided by Microsoft‘s social impact activities in Kenya such as the TukoWorks Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship Portal, 4Afrika programs and the BizSpark Community.
