The purpose of this project is to create opportunities for 2000 young people from poor and disadvantaged background in Kenya to pursue careers in computer science and computer science related fields. The program will target young people who are at their transition point in education from high school to tertiary education. The young people targeted will be introduced to computer science including on introduction to computer systems, hardware and software components, computer applications, programming and coding, and components on ICT for development.
The students will then be introduced to Microsoft’s E learning portal known as the Imagine academy where they will be given a chance to enhance and pursue further certifications in Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Microsoft Certified Solutions Associates (MCSA) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Which form key components in any Computer science related field. It is expected that in the long term, at least 70 per cent of the young people participating in this program will pursue careers in computer science and computer science related fields. The trainers drawn from ACWICT, government community centres and youth serving partner organisations will receive intensive training and certification at the start of the project as well as 2 other refresher trainings in order to enable to effectively train, mentor and support the young people they train.
