INTEL She Will Connect
Program Aim
The overall goal of the ISWC program is to increase employability prospects and income generating capacities of 5,000 high potentials and disadvantaged young women aged between 18 and 35 years from urban informal settlements and rural Kenya. Equipping them with digital literacy skills using the Intel She Will Connect Digital Literacy Curriculum, online work, life, and entrepreneurship skills.
Those skills are necessary for engaging and succeeding in online work and entrepreneurial ventures. Once trained the young women are linked to online job platforms such as UpWork from where they engage in online work as a way of employment. Those seeking entrepreneurship pathways are supported to access start-up capital and businesses including the government’s e-procurement portal to bid for the 30% government tenders set aside for youth and women.
Our Goals & Objectives
-
To recruit and train 5,000 young women with digital literacy skills, online work, life, and entrepreneurship skills
-
To place 70% of the young women trained into jobs/entrepreneurial opportunities
Our Approach
Key program activities to be implemented under the sustainability training will include the mobilization and recruitment of the young women to participate in the project; training of the young women; connecting the young women to mentors for post-training /mentorship support; participating in project review meetings. The training will be delivered over a period of two weeks (10 days) with the first week focusing on Digital Literacy skills while the second week focuses on Online work training. Digital literacy skills training is key to the project to ensure that all youth participating in the program achieve a certain level of competency working with a computer before they can engage in online work training. For job placements, the young women were linked to online job platforms such as UpWork from where they engaged in online work as a way of employment. Those seeking entrepreneurship pathways were supported to access start-up capital and businesses including the government’s e-procurement portal to bid for the 30% government tenders set aside for youth and women.
