The African Centre for Women, Information and Communications Technology (ACWICT) is an Africa-focused organization advancing inclusive digital transformation. Founded in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2001, ACWICT equips women, girls, youth, and underserved communities with digital skills, confidence, leadership capabilities, and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship. ACWICT primarily serves women, girls, young people, persons with disabilities, and communities that face barriers to accessing digital economic opportunities. Depending on the program, participants may include students, job seekers, entrepreneurs, smallholder farmers, community leaders, educators, health workers, and other underserved groups. Some programs are open to both women and men, although advancing women’s and girls’ participation in technology remains central to our mission.

ACWICT is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and has a regional reach across Africa. Our website currently highlights programs and partnerships in Kenya and Uganda, including work in rural, peri-urban, and underserved communities. ACWICT delivers programs in workforce development and employability, digital entrepreneurship, research and innovation, inclusive digital policy, and artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Available courses may include basic digital literacy, gig, and online work, digital agri-preneurship, the creative economy, IT and device repair, entrepreneurship and other market-relevant digital skills. Open programs and application opportunities are announced through the ACWICT website, official social media platforms, and authorized project partners. Each announcement provides the eligibility criteria, participating locations, application deadline, and official application link. Applicants should submit accurate information and use only the channels identified in the announcement. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not automatically guarantee selection where places are limited

Many ACWICT courses are offered free of charge through donor-funded or partner-supported programs. However, some specialized courses, examinations, external certifications, or learning materials may attract a fee. Any approved cost will be clearly communicated before enrolment. Applicants should never make unofficial payments to individuals claiming to guarantee admission, certification, or employment.

Not necessarily. ACWICT offers foundational and basic digital-skills programs suitable for beginners, including people with little or no previous ICT experience. Intermediate and specialized courses may require prior knowledge, access to equipment, or completion of foundational modules. Any prerequisites will be stated in the relevant course description or application notice

ACWICT uses online, in-person and blended training approaches. The delivery method depends on the program, location, subject matter, and participant needs. Selected participants receive information about the training venue or online platform, schedule, required equipment, and attendance expectations before the program begins.

Participants may receive a certificate of completion or participation after meeting the applicable attendance, assessment, and course-completion requirements. Some programs offer certification through ACWICT, while others involve government agencies, training institutions, or industry certification bodies. External certification may have additional requirements or fees. The relevant program team will explain the applicable certification arrangements before or during training

No. Completing an ACWICT course does not guarantee a job, contract, income, or business opportunity. The training is designed to strengthen participants’ skills, confidence, employability, and readiness for entrepreneurship. ACWICT and its partners may provide employment linkages, mentorship, enterprise support, or referrals, but final recruitment, contracting and business decisions are made independently by employers, clients, financial institutions and market actors.

Post-training support varies by program. It may include mentorship, career guidance, entrepreneurship and financial-literacy training, business development support, referrals to employers, access to professional networks, internship opportunities, market linkages, or enterprise incubation. Participants are encouraged to remain active through official alums, community, and partner networks and to make use of the opportunities shared through those channels.

ACWICT is committed to inclusive participation and to reducing barriers affecting persons with disabilities. Depending on participants’ needs and available resources, programs may provide accessible venues, adapted learning materials, sign-language interpretation, assistive support, or alternative participation arrangements. Applicants who require reasonable accommodation are encouraged to indicate their needs during registration or contact the program team in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be explored

ACWICT works with governments, development partners, private-sector organizations, academic institutions, research bodies, and community organizations. Employment, internship, and consultancy opportunities are advertised through the ACWICT website and other official communication channels when they become available. Applicants should review the qualifications and submission instructions carefully and apply through the channel specified in the advertisement. ACWICT is formally registered as a data handler with Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC). We collect and process personal information only for legitimate programme, administrative, safeguarding, research and reporting purposes. We apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. Access is restricted to authorized personnel and approved service providers who require the information for specified purposes. ACWICT does not sell or trade participants’ personal information and processes all personal data in accordance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019, and other applicable data-protection requirements. Any participant, staff member, partner or member of the public who experiences or witnesses harassment, exploitation, abuse, discrimination, fraud or other misconduct connected to an ACWICT activity should report it through the official Safeguarding Complaint Form or email informationcentre@acwict.org  Reports are handled as promptly, sensitively and confidentially as possible, and retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith is prohibited. Anyone facing immediate danger should first contact the relevant local authorities or emergency services.
