From Skills to Self-Employment: Iddi Omondi’s Journey | IDF Success Story

Iddi Omondi is a young entrepreneur from Siaya County whose journey demonstrates how practical digital skills can create pathways to self-employment and financial independence. Driven by an interest in technology, Iddi joined the Inclusive Digital Futures (IDF) programme, where he received training in IT and Device Repair.
Through the training, Iddi gained practical skills in device repair, software, and the tools needed to service phones and other IT devices. With limited capital, he partnered with a friend to combine their resources and start a small repair business. Today, the business serves an average of four customers per day and earns him approximately KES 12,000 per month, enabling him to support his daily needs.
Iddi’s story shows how access to relevant skills, knowledge, and opportunity can help young people turn their interests into sustainable livelihoods. He hopes to grow the business, serve more customers, and create opportunities for others in his community.
