#WeSpeakCode Program

During the month of August, ACWICT in partnership with the Institute of Technology was able to skill learners in Primary, Junior Secondary & High School with innovative coding skills that focused on problem solving using technology, game Development, Digital and Computer Science Literacy.   Education space can interface with key players in the Tech industry to explore the growing landscape that is Technology.

The key thematic areas addressed in the Day’s workshop included “Mastering the pathway to innovation- a critical look at the SDLC model and the impact Generative AI is having on solutions consumer & Enterprise Interfacing capabilities today.

Learners Experience in the #WeSpeakCode program

Throughout the We Speak Code workshop, students were immersed in a variety of coding activities that sparked their curiosity and creativity. The younger students, particularly those in grades 1-6, found the interactive sessions with Minecraft and Scratch to be incredibly engaging. They enjoyed the hands-on nature of the activities, where they could see their ideas transformed into playable games. For the older students, including high schoolers and a first-year university student, the workshop provided a platform to delve deeper into programming languages like Python, HTML, and CSS. They were challenged to develop more advanced projects, such as chatbots and simple websites, which helped solidify their coding knowledge. The varied skill levels among the participants made each day unique, with some students progressing from basic to more complex tasks as the week concluded

Testimonials from our parents and learners

Ronald Mukudi- Father od Ryan Mukudi

My son Ryan recently attended the 3-day Week of Code program, and I am thrilled with the experience he had. The program was well-structured and engaging, at first I thought coding was such a complex program for a student since the level they do at school is more theoretical because of lack of resources but to my surprise the boy told me their trainer whom he kept on referring as “Uncle Ben” made complex coding concepts accessible and fun. He came home each day excited to share what he learned and with some homework, from basic coding principles to creating his own simple programs around gaming concepts. The hands-on approach and the supportive environment really boosted his confidence and sparked a genuine interest in technology, even him owning an email address was such a precious thing to him. I’m grateful to the organizers for providing such a valuable opportunity, as a teacher I highly recommend this program to other parents looking to introduce their children to coding, every holiday Ryan will advance of his skills.

David Nyamai- Father of Caren and Jonathan

My son and daughter attended the 1-day coding program, and they absolutely loved it! They came home excited, if there are future programs like those then I would engage, I also received positive feedback from my friends whose kids attended alongside mine.

Jonathan Grade 1-6 Primary School

I had so much fun during the Week of Code, especially playing Minecraft! It was awesome learning how to code while playing one of my favorite games. I would love to do more programs like this in the future, and I’m excited to try out other games too, not just Minecraft.

Ryan Mukudi- Juniour Secondary School

What stood out for me was how the program balanced practical with problem-solving exercises that encouraged creativity and careful thinking. I created my first gaming program with scratch without knowing. It was interesting to have my email address, normally I use my brother’s email that he signs in only whenever he wants, my hour of code certificate is also well stored in the email. The afternoons got more interesting; I got a chance to play my favorite basketball game on the series X.

The instructors were patient, knowledgeable because I have never interacted with coding programs and platforms, I learnt about Python programming, Scratch, HTML, CSS, all along I thought Python was a snake, but I can say it is the best for me.

Thanks to the teachers and everybody there. My next holiday I will be there”
